New Restaurant Tax For Ralston Arena Goes Into Effect

RALSTON, Omaha (CelebrityAccess) — It will get a little more expensive to eat out in Ralston this weekend due to a tax to help pay for the city's arena.

The new restaurant tax, which adds 2.5% to the cost of food and beverages, goes into effect in the city on Sunday and city officials estimate that the tax will generate $350,000 annually from the city’s 26 restaurants according to the Omaha World-Herald.

The new tax is one of a number of measures the city has taken to pay off $41 million debt the city incurred for the 4,400-seat Ralston Arena, which opened in 2012. Other measures include increased property taxes by 4.3 percent and imposed budget cuts for a number of city departments.

The arena currently serves as a home for Omaha Heart, Legends Football League team; Omaha Beef, an Champions Indoor Football League team and the US Hockey League team The Omaha Lancers. – Staff Writers
