Ian is the second child of massage therapist Edna and independent contractor Robert. He has an older brother named Robert and a younger sister, Robyn. He attended Mandeville High School, a public school in Mandeville, Louisiana for his high school education.
Thanks to his so charming face, Ian started modeling at the age of 10. To that end, he would go to New York every summer to model. He grew up in a house where he could swim, boat, fish, and train horses. At 17, Ian Somerhalder decided to pursue acting.
